Additional information

Justification for selection of repeated dose toxicity via oral route - systemic effects endpoint:
There is no evidence that charcoal or activated charcoal is orally toxic under repeat dose circumstances in humans where it is used for medical reasons. In fact all evidence suggests that it is beneficial in certain circumstances as a treatment for removing toxins from the stomach and gastric tract and for various other ailments.

Justification for selection of repeated dose toxicity inhalation - local effects endpoint:
Substance is a solid insoluble mainly inorganic powder. Dermal penetration is not a relevant route of exposure. Recently there are a large number of skin products appearing on the market that use activated charcoal as an ingredient in body scrubs, soaps and face masks which are designed to remove toxins and oils from the skin. It is unlikely that ingredients used in the personal care market have not been sanctioned for use in such applications and found to be harmless.
