Description of key information

In the assessment of calcium neodecanoate, read-across to the assessment entities soluble calcium substances and neodecanoic acid is applied since the ions of calcium neodecanoate determine its fate and toxicity in the environment. The potential for acute toxicity of calcium to fish is low based on EC50 values for different freshwater and marine species being above the OECD 203 test limit of 100 mg/L and the fact that calcium is added to standard test media. Based on a reliable OECD 203 equivalent study, the 96-h LL50 for O. mykiss is > 100 mg/L (measured) neodecanoic acid. In sum, calcium neodecanoate has a low potential for acute toxicity to fish.
