Description of key information

Two tests were conducted with InCl3:

-a classical water solubility test according to OECD 105, giving a water solubility (at 20 °C ± 0.5 °C) of > 1000 g/l. this general test is considered less relevant for ecotoxicity assessment.

-a Transformation-dissolution test according to OECD 29 over 6days and /or 28 days with 1 mg/l loading. This latter test is specially designed for ecotoxicity assessments and therefore considered most relevant for ecotoxicity of Indium substances. After 7 days, In measured at pH 6 was <0.05µg/l; at pH 8, Indium was <0.01µg/l. after 28 days, In measured at pH 6 was <0.02µg/l, at pH 8, it was <0.01µg/l.

Based on these results, it is concluded that the In3+ ion dissolving from the readily soluble InCl3 precipitates out at pH 6 -8, and is thus not present in solution anymore after 7 days and 28 days. It follows also from these results that at pH 6, Indium may precipitate a little bit less than at pH 8.0. For this reason, TD tests on other In compounds were performed at pH 6.0.
