Interpretation

Considering that distilled water has a theoretical surface tension of 72.75 mN/m at 20 °C, test items showing a surface tension lower than 60 mN/m under the conditions of this method should be regarded as being surface-active materials.

The first verification was not taken into account as it did not comply with the quality criteria.

The mean surface tension of distilled water was 71.0 mN/m at, measurement vessel was considered to be clean and ready for use.

Measurements on the test item diluted at 1 g/L in distilled water

Preparation of the solution:

A volume of the test item was sampled into a 500-mL volumetric flask and the volume was made up with distilled water. The solution was magnetically stirred during 4 hours and 55 min.

Conclusions:
The mean surface tension of the test item diluted at 1 g/L in distilled water at 20.0 °C was 25.3 mN/m.

The test item was considered as surface-active in the experimental conditions used.
Executive summary:

The surface tension of Phosphonium, tetrakis(hydroxymethyl) -, sulphate (2:1), reaction products with 1-tetradecanamine and urea has been determined according to EC A.5 method and OECD test guideline 11 in compliance with GLP.

A ring method was used for the determination of the surface tension. The surface tension was 23.5 mN/m at 20°C.

Description of key information

The surface tension was determined to be equal to 25.3 mN/m at 21.6°C and 1g/L

Additional information

An experimental study, scored at Klimisch 1, was selected as a key study. It was performed in compliance with GLP acoording to EC A.5. test method and OECd 115 test guideline.
