In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, a study on oxidising properties does not need to be conducted if the substance, based on the chemical structure, is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials. As the substance does not contain any components with chemical groups associated with oxidising properties as reported in Table R.7.1-29 (Chemical groups associated with explosive properties) of the Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.7a: Endpoint specific guidance (ECHA, 2008), then, the study does not need to be conducted. Moreover, The substance is synthesised in a closed process. It is then collected and transported via a pipe-line all the way to its site of use (where its end use is as a fuel in a thermal power station). The pattern of use of the substance involves then a high level of containment. Accordingly, exposure to the substance is very unlikely.
Based on the structure of the molecule and taking into
account the provisions laid down in Council Directive 67/548/EEC and
CLP, distillation residues of butyraldehyde, 2-ethylhexenal and
isobutanal hydrogenation by-products does not have to be classified with
respect to oxidising properties.
