Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Boiling point determinations (following EU Method A.2) have been run on both Ethyl hexyl methoxycrylene (EHMC)(EC Number 700-213-5) and Undecenyl methoxycrylene (UMC) (EC Number 700-824-2).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Boiling point at 101 325 Pa:
665 K

Additional information

The two chemical substances, EHMC and UMC, are closely related in molecular structure, molecular mass, and functional groups. The only difference between these substances chemically is the alcohol group on the ester functionality. For EHMC, the alcohol moiety is 2-ethylhexyl- (branched eight-carbon chain), and for UMC the alcohol moiety is undecenyl (straight eleven-carbon chain with a C=C alkene bond at the end of the chain). These two substances, based on their close similarity of molecular structure and functionality, are expected to have similar properties. UMC information is being used as read across data for toxicological endpoints for this registration. In the case of EHMC, the boiling point was determined by measurement to be 646-694 K (at 102.62 kPa). The boiling point for UMC was determined by the same method to be 653-702 K (at 100.69 kPa). The close agreement of these two boiling points supports the similarity of properties and read across approach for EHMC and UMC.
