Description of key information

EC50 (28 d) >1000 mg test substance/L (nominal) based on nitrogen transformation rate (OECD 216)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

One experimental study is available investigating the potential effects of Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes on nitrogen transformation of terrestrial microorganisms. The study was performed according to OECD guideline 216 under GLP conditions. A clay loam textured soil was exposed for 28 d to concentrations of 0 mg and 1000 mg test substance/kg dry weight soil. Young alfalfa powder was added to the soil (5 g/kg dry weight soil) to stimulate nitrogen transformation. The test substance caused no adverse effects (OECD 216) on the soil nitrogen transformation (based on the nitrate formation rate) in the tested concentration at the end of the 28 d incubation period. The EC50 (28 d) was therefore reported as > 1000 mg test substance/kg soil dw.
