Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.12 (Flammability (Contact with Water))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes
Key result
Test procedure:
step 1
step 2
step 3
step 4
Identity of evolved gas:
not applicable as no gas evolved
Remarks on result:
no reaction with water observed
Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The substance does not emit flammable gases on contact with water.
Executive summary:

According to the EU Method A.12 (Flammability (Contact with Water)) for 'Determination of flammability in case of contact with water or moist air' the substnace did not liberate gases in hazardous amounts. During the 4 consecutive test steps no formation of reaction gases was observed. Attempts to ignite the gas phase above the dish with the flame of a burner produced negative results. The substance did not emit flammable gases on contact with water.

Endpoint:
flammable liquids: obsolete as covered by section 'Flash point'
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid
Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid

Description of key information

1.) Contact with water: The substance does not emit flammable gases on contact with water.

2.) Pyrophoric properties: he substance did not deliver indications of pyrophoric properties during the realization of tests as defined in EC-A 9 and EC-A 12. (For details see chapter 4.11)

3.) Flammability: The study does not be conducted becaus the substance is a liquid. The substance exhibited a flash point of 77.5 °C (for details see chapter 4.11).

4.) self-heating: The surface of liquids is not large enough for reaction with air and the test method is not applicable to liquids.

Key value for chemical safety assessment
