Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
The results of the test with Pseudomonas putida clearly demonstrate that androstendionecyanhydrinethylene
ketal inhibits the growth of the test organisms at concentrations which are
lower than the maximum solubility of the test compound.
Executive summary:

The test substance androstendione-cyanhydrinethylene ketal was incubated in an aqueous solution including nutrients, with a bacterial population containing Pseudomonas putida for a test duration of approx. 16 hours. The nutrient solution was made up of mainly nitrate, phosphates, carbon hydrate, some trace elements and vitamins. The test concentrations were: 0.34; 0.68; 1.36 and 2.72 mg/l (nominal). Additionally, one control vessel without the test substance was used. All test concentrations including the control were incubated in tripie determinations. Furthermore, for each test concentrationone test vessel was incubated without addition of the inoculum, in order to analyze the inherent turbidity of the test compound. As a parameter for the growth of the bacterial population, the turbidity of the test and control solutions was analyzed photometrically at a wave-Iength of 436 nm. The extinction units were calculated in TE/F units.

The values of the turbidity measurements clearly demonstrate that inhibitory effects on the growth of the bacterial population were induced by androstendione-cyanhydrinethylene ketal. The EC50 of androstendione-cyanhydrinethylene ketal is 0.82 mg/I, which is lower than the maximum solubility of the test compound under the conditions of the test, which was determined to be 3.4 mg/I.
