The substance is a strong acid with a pKa of 0.17. The log POW of the undissociated substance was determined in a buffer system at pH 1.2. The study shows a log POW of 4. However, this log POW is considered to be not relevant for environmental conditions. According to the Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.7a, the relevant range of pH is 5-9. Therefore, a calculation with EPIWIN was performed with the sodium salt (the anion of a strong acid is a weak base, i.e. the pH is around 7). The calculated log POW of the sodium salt is 2.8. This log POW is considered to be the relevant value for environmental conditions.
