Description of key information

With high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic algae. No acute toxic effects occur within the range of solubility.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The toxicity of the test substance to algae was tested in a guideline study according to OECD 201 and GLP (RCC Ltd. 2007). Due to the low water solubility of the test item, a dispersion of the test item with the loading rate of 100 mg/L was continuously stirred at room temperature in the dark over 96 hours. The dispersion was filtered and the undiluted filtrate and the dilutions 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16 were used as test media. The algal cells of the species Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata were exposed for 72 hours.

The 72-hour EC50 for the growth rate is clearly higher than the loading rate of 100 mg/L and higher than the water solubility limit under test conditions (0.0053 mg/L). The 72-hour EC50 for yield was estimated as 0.0047 mg/L (mean measured). Therefore, no acute toxic effects occur within the range of solubility.
