The substance is considered to be susceptible to hydrolysis at pH 4, 7, and 9, with a hydrolysis half-life of 118 hrs at 20 °C at pH 7 and 9. Product of hydrolysis is expected to be the terephthalic acid which is known to be readily biodegradable (SIDS Initial Assessment Report For 12th SIAM (Paris, France June 2001) for Terephthalic acid (TPA)).
