Endpoint:
surface tension
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
April - June 2020
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 115 (Surface Tension of Aqueous Solutions)
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.5 (Surface Tension)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
ring method
Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Storage conditions: Controlled room temperature (15-25°C, ≤70% relative humidity), protected from light and humidity (stored in a tightly closed container)
Key result
Surface tension:
68.72 mN/m
Temp.:
20.17 °C
Remarks on result:
other: saturated solution tested
Conclusions:
The surface tension value was found to be 68.72 mN/m at 20.17°C. As the surface tension value of the 90% of the saturated aqueous solution of the test was greater than 60 mN/m, the test item is classified as not being a surface active substance.
Executive summary:

The study was conducted in accordance with OECD test guidelines no. 115 and EU method A.5, using the ring method. The surface tension determination of the test item at the 90% of saturation level in water (with approx. 90 mg/L as supposed concentration) was carried out by a Krüss K11 Tensiometer using the ring method. The surface tension value was found to be 68.72 mN/m with 0.47 RSD% at 20.17°C ± 0.31°C. As the surface tension value of the 90% of the saturated aqueous solution of the test was greater than 60 mN/m, the test item is classified as not being a surface active substance.
