In the preliminary screening test following the EU and the UN method, the test item was heated with the flame of a teclu burner. The test item crackled and the granulates shattered. The flame was green and also glowing was observed during heating. No ignition occurred within two minutes.

This study was performed in order to determine the flammability of Lead sulphate. The test item was formed into an unbroken strip or powder train about 250 mm long. A preliminary screening test was performed to determine if, on ignition by a gas flame, propagation by burning with flame or smouldering occurs. If propagation over 200 mm of the train occurs within a specified time, then a full test programme to determine the burning rate should be carried out.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The result of the key study (Krebs, F. 2020) does not indicate Lead sulphate to be classified for flammability according to CLP Regulation 1272/2008.
