Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No information on the toxicokinetics of the registration substance is available. However, some information is available on one of the main consitituents, salicin.

According to a report of the European Medicines Agency dated 31.1.2017: "Assessment report on Salix [various species including S. purpurea L., S. daphnoides Vill., S. fragilis L.], cortex" salicin can be hydrolysed by intestinal bacteria in the intestine of rats to its main metabolite saligenin. Salicin and saligenin can then be further transported unchanged through the intestinal wall.

In in vitro studies saligenin was transformed to salicylic acid by homogenised liver, lung and kidney and salicin was partially metabolised to saligenin and salicic acid after incubation with homogenised kidney from rats.

Due to the metabolism and the low lipophilicity of the components of the registration substance a bioaccumulation potential is not expected.
