Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Since experimental data for sodium lauroyl lactylate (SLL) are partially lacking, read-across from sodium isostearoyl lactylate (ISL) was applied for two trophic levels (fish, algae). For daphnia an acute toxicity study according to OECD test guideline 202 (2004) was conducted with the target substance.

Three trophic levels (fish, daphnia, algae) are covered by the acute toxicity data set. No chronic data are available. Algae were observed to be the most sensitive species. The 72-h ErC50 determined according to OECD test guideline 201 (2011) was higher than 14.4 mg/L (mean measured, maximum achievable concentration of the read-across partner ISL). Stoichiometric conversion results in an SLL-related ErC50 of > 11.7 mg/L (unbounded).

An activated sludge respiration inhibition test according to OECD 209 resulted in an EC50 of > 1000 mg/L and a NOEC of ≥ 1000 mg/L. There was no significant inhibition of bacterial respiration by the test item up to and including a nominal concentration of 1000 mg per litre. Since ISL shows no significant inhibition of bacteria respiration, neither any toxic effects of SLL on STPs is expected, by way of read-across.
