Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
oxidising liquids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
22 September 2017 to 27 September 2018
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.21 (Oxidising Properties (Liquids))
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
Deviations described in "Principles of method if other than guideline".
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Test method EC A.21 specifies that the test mixture of cellulose and the test item is heated until either the burst disc ruptured or until at least 60 seconds had elapsed, however, operator stopped heating the test mixture once a decrease in pressure was observed as this indicated that the reaction had concluded. This was in some cases done before 60 seconds had elapsed. One test item/ cellulose test run was terminated before 60 seconds of heating.

As the test pressure had surpassed the upper requirement of 2070 kPa, the duration for the ressure to increase from 690 kPa to 2070 kPa was significantly greater than the reference item/cellulose mixture and the pressure had decreased in all tests it is beyond doubt that prolonged heating would have made no impact on the results of the test.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Purity: >98 % This substance has an Unknown or Variable composition, is a Complex reaction product, or a Biological material (UVCB), therefore purity was taken to be 100 %
- Description: Yellow liquid
Contact with:
powdered cellulose
Duration of test (contact time):
60 s
Key result
Sample tested:
test mixture 1:1
Parameter:
mean pressure rise time
Result:
26.345 s
Remarks on result:
spontaneous ignition does not occur
Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The test item has been determined to be a non-oxidising liquid.
Executive summary:

The oxidizing properties of the test item has been determined in a study performed to the standardized guideline EU Test Method A.21, under GLP conditions. The test material was found to have a mean pressure rise time greater than that observed for the nitric acid reference sample. The test item is therefore not considered to be an oxidising liquid.
