Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
other: no propagation of combustion of the test item along 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was observed

The flame of the gas burner did ignite the test item pile. The test item burned with an orange flame and turned into a black charred residue. Black smoke was observed. After removal of the ignition source, the pile had burned a distance of 68 mm in 240 seconds (4 minutes). According to this, the burning rate test was not performed.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The preliminary screening test was performed for the determination of the flammability of the test item. No propagation of combustion of the test item along 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was observed. According to the guidelines, performance of the burning rate test is not required. Based on the results obtained, the test item is considered ‘not highly flammable’.
Executive summary:

The flammability of the test item was investigated in a GLP-compliant study performed in accordance with EC A.10 method and UN Test N.1 method. No propagation of combustion of the test item along 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was observed in the preliminary screening test. According to the guidelines, performance of the burning rate test is not required.  Based on the results obtained, the test item is considered ‘not highly flammable’.

Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied

Description of key information

The flammability of 2-Propenoic acid, methyl ester, reaction products with 2-ethyl-1-hexanamine and sodium hydroxide (methanol free) was investigated in a GLP-compliant study performed in accordance with EC A.10 method and UN Test N.1 method. No propagation of combustion of the test item along 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was observed in the preliminary screening test. According to the guidelines, performance of the burning rate test is not required. Based on the results obtained, 2-Propenoic acid, methyl ester, reaction products with 2-ethyl-1-hexanamine and sodium hydroxide (methanol free) is considered ‘not highly flammable’.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

The flammability of 2-Propenoic acid, methyl ester, reaction products with 2-ethyl-1-hexanamine and sodium hydroxide (methanol free) was investigated in a GLP-compliant study performed in accordance with standard methods, without deviations (Volic, 2018). The study is considered as reliable (Klimisch 1) and was selected as a key study for the endpoint.
