Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
23 February 2017-06 June 2017
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Justification for type of information:
The study was conducted according to an internationally recognised method, and under GLP. No deviation was reported. Test substance is adequately specified with purity. Therefore full validation applies.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:
UK GLP compliance programme (inspected on 05 July 2016 / signed on 28 Octobre 2016)
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Burning time:
392 s
Remarks on result:
other: The pile of test item ignited with a yellow flame which propagated combustion over 200 mm in 6 minutes and 32 seconds. This result for the preliminary screening test obviated the need to perform the main test.

The pile of test item ignited with a yellow flame which propagated combustion over 200 mm in 6 minutes and 32 seconds.

This result for the preliminary screening test obviated the need to perform the main test.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The test substance is NOT classified as a flammable solid according to Regulation (EC) N°1272/2008 (CLP) and UN GHS criteria.
Executive summary:

The flammability (solids) was determined by measuring the burning rate of the test item, prepared as a pile of set dimensions. Testing was conducted using a procedure designed to be compatible with Method A.10 Flammability (Solids) of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008.

The test item has been determined not to be highly flammable.

Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance does not contain metals or metalloids and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVINGIn accordance with section 1 of REACh Annex XI, study for pyrophoric properties is deemed unnecessary based on the chemical structure that does not fall into critical categories described in ECHA guidance, and based on the experience in handling, testing and use of the substance.
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance does not contain metals or metalloids and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVINGIn accordance with section 1 of REACh Annex XI, study for flammability if contact with water is deemed unnecessary based on the chemical structure that does not fall into critical categories described in ECHA guidance, and based on the experience in handling, testing and use of the substance.

Description of key information

The substance propagates burning of a 200 mm length of the powder train in more than 2 minutes so the full test programme should no be carried out: not a flammable solid (CLP/GHS).

Not flammable if contact with air or water (waived).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Fully reliable GLP experimental studies are available:

Flammability of solids was evaluated according to A.10 method, and is presented under point 4.13. This study is considered as key study.

Based on the chemical structure and experience, no flammable properties are anticipated if contact with air or water, therefore studies were deemed unnecessary.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to Regulation (EC) No.1272/2008 (CLP) and UN Globally Harmonised System (GHS) criteria, the substance as solid did not ignite in the preliminary test, therefore the substance is NOT classified as a flammable solid.

As the substance is still solid at the upper classification threshold of 60°C, the Flash Point is not relevant for CLP criteria.
