Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
GENERAL:
Show this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance.
First aider needs to protect himself.
Place affected clothing in a sealed bag for subsequent decontamination.
INHALATION:
Move to fresh air.
Keep at rest.
Consult a physician.
CONTACT WITH SKIN:
Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately.
Wash immediately and thoroughly for a prolonged period (at least 15 minutes).
Consult a physician.
CONTACT WITH EYES:
Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes.
If eye irritation persists, consult a physician
INGESTION:
Do NOT induce vomiting.
Do not give anything to drink.
Obtain medical attention.
Fire-fighting measures
EXTINGUISHING MEDIA:
Suitable : Carbon dioxide (CO2), powder
Unsuitable : NO aqueous agents.
HAZARD DURING FIRE-FIGHTING:
Highly toxic gases are released.
Aqueous solution causes burns of eyes, skin and mucous membranes.
PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT FOR FIE-FIGHTING:
Full protective suit
Personal protective equipment comprising: suitable protective gloves, safety goggles and protective clothing
Boots
Self-contained breathing apparatus (EN 133)
SPECIFIC FIRE-FIGHTING METHODS:
Do not inhale fumes. Evacuate personnel to safe areas. Cool containers / tanks with water spray. Wear suitable protective equipment.
Accidental release measures
PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS:
Avoid contact with the skin and the eyes.
Do not breathe vapour.
Complete suit protecting against chemicals
Self-contained breathing apparatus (EN 133)
Stop the leak. Turn leaking containers leak-side up to prevent the escape of liquid.
Collect spillage.
Local exhaust
Mark the contaminated area with signs and prevent access to unauthorized personnel.
ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS:
Do not allow uncontrolled discharge of product into the environment.
Dam up.
METHODS FOR CLEANING OR TAKING UP:
Recovery : Keep in properly labelled containers. Acid resistant materials.
Neutralization : If recovery is impossible, or if the pools are too small:Soak up with inert absorbent material (e.g. sand, silica gel, acid binder, universal binder, sawdust). Neutralize with lime milk or soda and flush with plenty of water.
Decontamination/cleaning : Wash the non-recoverable remainder with sodium carbonate solution (5 % Na2 CO3). Wash off with plenty of water.
Disposal : Treat recovered material as described in the section "Disposal considerations".
Further Accidental Release Measures
FURTHER ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES:
Only qualified personnel equipped with suitable protective equipment may intervene.
Handling and storage
FIRE AND EXPLOSION PROTECTION:
Closed system. Keep in a bunded area with acid resisting floor. Vapour extraction at source
ADVICE ON SAFE HANDLING:
Do not allow contact with air. Never add water to this product. Protect from moisture.
STORAGE REQUIREMENTS:
The floor of the depot should be impermeable and designed to form a water-tight basin. Keep in a well-ventilated place.
STORAGE CONDITIONS:
Recommended : Keep under nitrogen. Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition. Keep container tightly closed and dry. Keep in a cool, well-ventilated place.
MIXED STORAGE :
Acids. Alkalis and caustic products. Keep away from metals.Oxidizing materials.
PACKAGING MEASURES:
Packaging conditions: steel drums, glass bottles.
Packaging materials - Recommended : glass, stainless steel, Teflon R
Packaging materials - To be avoided : All other materials.

BODY PROTECTION:
Remove and wash contaminated clothing.
Acid-resistant boots.
Acid-resistant clothing.
INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE:
Emergency equipment immediately accessible, with instructions for use.
Ensure that eyewash stations and safety showers are close to the workstation location.
Smoking, eating and drinking should be prohibited in the application area.
Regular cleaning of equipment, work area and clothing.
Use clean, well-maintained personal protection equipment.
Store personal protection equipment in a clean location away from the work area.
Contaminated work clothing should not be allowed out of the workplace.
Before reuse, thoroughly clean personal protection equipment
Wash hands before breaks and immediately after handling the product.
GENERAL PROTECTIVE MEASURES:
The protective equipment must be selected in accordance with current CEN standards and in cooperation with the supplier of the protective equipment.
Selection of appropriate personal protective equipment should be based on an evaluation of the performance characteristics of the protective equipment relative to the task(s) to be performed, conditions present, duration of use, and the potential hazards and/or risks that may occur, during use..
Stability and reactivity
CHEMICAL STABILITY:
Stable at room temperature.
HAZARDOUS REACTIONS:
Attacks many metals releasing highly flammable gas (hydrogen) which generates fire or explosion hazards.

Disposal considerations
ADVICE ON DISPOSAL AND PACKAGING:
Advice on disposal :
Dispose of in accordance with local regulations.
Must be incinerated in a suitable incineration plant holding a permit delivered by the competent authorities.
Advice on packaging :
Should not be released into the environment.
Avoid release to the environment.
Do not dispose of together with household waste.
Land-fill is forbidden.
CLEANING AND DISPOSAL OF PACKAGING:
Clean with acetic acid. Rinse with water. Allow it to drain thoroughly. After recovery of solvent dispose of by special waste incineration.
Destroy at an authorised site.
Dispose of in accordance with local regulations.
