study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties

Description of key information

Zinc difluoride has no explosive properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

Considering that zinc difluoride has a boiling point of 1500 °C, this substance is assumed to be “inert” in the context of explosivity as the ionic and anionic compounds of zinc difluoride are present in stable oxidation states. Furthermore, this substance does not contain any chemical structures commonly associated with explosive properties, such as metal peroxides, peroxo-acid-anions, azides, and halogen oxides (cf. section 7.11 Column 2 Annex VII of Regulation 1907/2006). Furthermore, long-term industrial experience in practical handling of the substance shows that it is not explosive.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Zinc difluoride does not need to be classified according to CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 since explosive properties are considered non-relevant based on the lack of functional group.
