Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The test was not performed experimentally because practical experience, e.g. in manufacture or handling shows that the substance does not ignite spontaneously on coming into contact with air at normal temperatures (i.e. the substance is known to be stable at
room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days). The test substance is therefore regarded as not being pyrophoric.
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The test was not performed experimentally because practical experience exists at the sponsor and the test facility, e.g. when preparing test substance solutions for testing for biodegradation. The test substance in contact with water do not develop any gas at all, therefore is regarded as not being flammable in contact with water.

Comments

Test-1

127

Sample melted and then ignited spontaneously in the place of applying  the flame of burner.

The flame was propagated on the all sample.

The sample was completely burned.

Test-3

Since the result is positive, it was necessary to go to the next stage of determination (burning rate test)

Interpretation of results:
other: Non flammable solid (CLP Regulation EC no. 1272/2008)
Conclusions:
The test item is not a readily combustible solid in accordance with UN test N.1.
Executive summary:

The flammability of the test item was determined according to UN test N.1 (ISO 17025 study). In the preliminary test (3 replicates) the test substance ignited spontaneously and the flame was propagated along the 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minute test period, therefore the main test (burning rate test) was conducted. This test was performed six times with 1 ml of a wetting solution added to the pile 30-40 mm beyond the 100 mm timing zone and in every case the burning time was higher than 45 seconds (and burning rate less than 2.2 mm/s) although the flame passed the wetted zone. Thus, the test item was determined to not be a readily combustible solid.

Description of key information

Flammability: Key study. Method according to UN Method N.1, ISO 17025 study. The test item is not a readily combustible solid and should be classified as non flammable solid according to CLP

Regulation EC no. 1272/2008.

Pyrophoric properties: Data waiving (study scientifically not necessary / other information available): Practical experience in manufacture and handling shows that the substance does not ignite spontaneously on coming into contact with air at normal temperatures.
Flammability in contact with water: Data waiving (study scientifically not necessary / other information available): The substance is not classified as flammable in contact with water based on the experience in handling / use which shows that the substance does not react with water.

Additional information

Flammability: Key study. This test was performed six times with 1 ml of a wetting solution added to the pile 30-40 mm beyond the 100 mm timing zone and in every case the burning time was higher than 45 seconds (and burning rate lower than 2.2 mm/s) although the flame passed the wetted zone. Thus, the test item was determined to not be a readily combustible solid and thus it should be classified as non flammable solid according to CLP Regulation EC no.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on result obtained with UN test N.1, the substance is not classified as flammable solid in accordance with CLP Regulation (EC) no. 1272/2008.
