Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriately low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The assessment of the toxicity of Orasol Black X51 (ES 939-191-9) to aquatic microorganisms is based on the experimental data from a GLP short-term respiration inhibition test performed by BASF SE (2017; report no.: 08G0074/16G249) according to OECD guideline 209. Activated sludge of predominantly activated sewage was used as inoculum. No inhibition effect was observed in the replicate with the highest test concentration (1000mg/L, nominal). Therefore, the 180 -min EC20 was higher than 1000 mg/L.

Based on the experimental data, it can be concluded that inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriately low concentrations.
