Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Short-term EC50 and NOEC values for Disodium beta-glycerophosphate (CAS no. 819-83-0) are available for two trophic levels of the aquatic freshwater compartment (aquatic invertebrates, algae) from GLP studies according to OECD 201 and 202.

Growth inhibition study aquatic algae (Desmodesmus subspicatus)(OECD 201):

ErC50 (72h): >100 mg/l nominal concentration

NOErC (72h): 100 mg/lnominal concentration

Short term toxicity on invertebrates (Daphnia magna) (OECD 202):

EC50 (48h): >100 mg/lnominal concentration

NOEC (48h): 100 mg/lnominal concentration

Additional information

Algae:

The acute toxicity of Disodium beta-glycerophosphate (CAS no. 819-83-0) to the green alga Desmodesmus subspicatus was determined in a 72 hour static test according to OECD guideline 201. The median effect concentrations (ECr50) of Disodium beta-glycerophosphate on the green alga Desmodesmus subspicatus was estimated to be >100 mg/l nominal concentration after 72 h of exposure. The NOErC values were determined to be 100 mg/l nominal concentration after 72 h of exposure. The results of the test can be considered reliable without restriction.

Daphnia:

The acute toxicity of Disodium beta-glycerophosphate (CAS no. 819-83-0) to Daphnia magna was determined in a 48 hour static test according to OECD guideline 202. The median effect concentrations (EC50) of Disodium beta-glycerophosphate on Daphnia magna were estimated to be >100 mg/l nominal concentration after 24 and 48 h of exposure, respectively. The NOEC values were determined to be 100 mg/l nominal concentration after 24 and 48 h of exposure, respectively. The results of the test can be considered reliable without restriction.

Conclusion on classification

The environmental classification of Disodium ß-glycerophosphate (CAS no. 819-83-0) is currently not harmonised according to the CLP Regulation (EC) 1272/2008. Based on available acute aquatic toxicity data, the lowest valid effect concentration for freshwater aquatic organisms is >100 mg/L (EC50 for algae and aquatic invertebrates). Based on the available acute data, the substance should not be classified for acute toxicity following Annex I, table 4.1.0a of the CLP regulation (there are no acute values <=1 mg/L).
