Groups of five rats, weighing 300 to 400 grams each, were exposed for 205 to 455 min to the vapors under dynamic conditions in a glass exposure jar.
During the exposures, the animals were observed for signs of irritation and respiratory distress. After the exposures, necropsies were done on the animals which succumbed. The survivors were kept for various observations for a 14-day period. Thereafter, the animals were sacrificed for gross pathological examinations.

Category 3 based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
At a nominal concentration of 3.66 mg/L for 405 minutes of vinylbenzyl chloride no mortality occurred and no visible lesion. At 3.74 mg/L for 420 minutes all test animals died in 5 days after exposure and at a concentration of 31.55 mg/L and 255 minutes the animals died during exposure. The observed acute inhalative toxicity corresponds to Category 3. Eye and nose irritation is observed at every concentration.
