APPEARANCE AND STATE

Acid Green 025 is a dark green organic powder at 20 °C and 1013 hPa.

Thermal behaviour was investigated by the Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and confirmed by capillary method. The test item has no melting point up to its decomposition starting at a temperature of approx. 250 °C. In the DSC-measurements the test item showed two small exothermic effects starting from 90 °C and 220 °C, with an overall decomposition energy of approximately -80 J/g.

The density of the test substance was measured using the pycnometer method and was calculated as a ratio of densities of the substance at 20 °C and water at 4 °C. The relative density resulted to be 1.5251 at 20 °C.

SOLUBILITY and PARTITION COEFFICIENT

Water solubility test was tested according to the OECD guideline 105; flask method was used. A preliminary test was carried out to determine the suitable method to be used in the main test. In the preliminary test the solubility of the test item was between 1.02 g/l and 7.5 g/l. Therefore, the flask method was used in the main test and the water solubility was determined to be 15.94 g/l at 20 °C and pH 5.91-6.13.

The partition coefficient was determined by shake-flask method following the procedures outlined into the OECD guideline 107. The experiments were carried out applying volume ratios and quantities of the test substance depending on expected partition and the LOQ of the analytical method in both phases. Three parallel tests were carried out at all solvent ratios. The logarithm of partition coefficient (logPow) of test item in n-octanol-water was determined to be -0.2 ± 0.3 at 25 °C and pH 5.4 - 5.9.

PHYSICAL HAZARDS

Acid Green 025 does not ignite and propagate combustion. The screening evaluation failed to evidence reasons of concern regarding the explosiveness and self-reactive potential, on the basis of the thermal behaviour investigation.

On the basis of the Grewer Oven test results, the substance failed to meet the criteria to be classified as self-heating substance.

Acid Green 025 does not meet the criteria to be considered as self-heating/flammable/explosive/oxidising agent.
