In all preliminary tests visual inspection shows that the mixture appears to be undissolved. Therefore solubility of test item <10mg/l. According to the guidelines for determination of water solubility, as main test the column elution method should be applied for compounds with solubility <10mg/L. For the test substance column elution method is not applicable: Coating of the support material (sea sand) is to be done by dissolving an excess of test article with an volatile organic solvent. As the test item may not be soluble in any organic solvent application of substance to support material cannot be performed. Therefore the flask method was applied.

A study was conducted according to OECD guideline 105 for determination of water solubility. The test was conducted in a GLP like setting and by the flask method. Concentration of cationic ingredients europium, strontium, barium were determined by ICP/OES and ICP/MS. Boron was determiend by ICPO/OES and ICP/MS also The test show that he test item itself has water solubility <10mg/L. Water solubility of europium residues is very low (0.12 mg/L), but release of barium (0.87g/L) and strontium is higher (0.49 g/L). Solubility of boron is low (0.0066 g/L). Measured pH value is 12.4

Description of key information

Three studies were conducted according to OECD guideline 105 for determination of water solubility. All tests were conducted in a GLP like setting and by the flask method. Concentration of cationic ingredients europium, strontium, barium were determined by ICP/OES and ICP/MS. In one test, boron concentrations were determined. All tests show that the test item itself has water solubility < 10mg/L. Water solubility of europium residues is very low (between 0.04 and 0.12 mg/L), boron concentration is low (0.007 g/L) exposure of barium (between 0.24g/L and 0.87 g/L) and strontium is higher (0.49 and 0.80 g/L). Measured pH values are between 11.7 and 12.4.
