The concentrations tested and the corresponding mortality data derived from the toxicity test were used to estimate 24- and 48-hour median lethal concentrations (LC50) and 95% confidence intervals. The 48-hour LC50 (and 95% confidence interval) for water flea to CR-39, estimated by binomial probability, was 18 (11-30) mg/L .

The concentrations tested and the corresponding mortality data derived from the toxicity test were used to estimate 24- and 48-hour median lethal concentrations (LC50) and 95% confidence intervals. The computer program utilized (Stephan, 1978, personal communication) estimated LC50 values using one of three statistical methods in the following order of preference: moving average angle analysis, prohit analysis, binomial probability. The method selected was determined by the characteristics of the data base (i.e. presence or absence of concentrations causing mortality of 100% of the animals in the test population, number of concentrations causing mortality of a partial number of animals in the test population, etc.). The computer program scanned the data base, identified the most appropriate statistical method and performed the analysis.

After 24 hours of exposure to CR-39, mortality of mysid shrimp ranged from 0% in the 6.25, 12.5, and 100 ppm test concentrations to 10% in the 50 ppm test concentration. The 24-hour LC50 was >100 ppm. After 96 hours of exposure, mortality ranged from 0% in the 6.25 and 12.5 ppm test concentrations to 70% in the 100 ppm test concentration. There was no mortality in the seawater control. Mortality was 5% in the solvent control. The 96-hour LC50 was 70.7 ppm with 95% confidence limits of 55.6-77.6 ppm.

A static marine toxicity test was conducted at EG&G Bionomics Marine Research Laboratory (BMRL), Pensacola, Florida, to determine the acute effect of CR-39 on mysid shrimp (Mysidopsis bahia). The criterion for effect was death. Results of the test are expressed as 24-, 48-, 72-, and 96-hour LC50's (the concentrations of the test material estimated to be lethal to 50% of the test animals at the specified times). The 96-hour LC50 was 70.7 ppm with 95% confidence limits of 55.6-77.6 ppm.

This endpoint is filled from data from one study in Daphnia magna (Suprenant et al., 1982) and another in Mysidopsis bahia (mysid shrimp) (Scott Ward, 1982a). The 48-hour EC50 value for 'diallyl 2,2'-oxydiethyl dicarbonate' in Daphnia magna is 18 mg/L and the 96-hour EC50 value in Mysidopsis bahia is 70.7 mg/L.
