- Principles of method if other than guideline:
- The screening procedure described in the following guidance was used:
- CLP, Annex I, Part 2, paragraphs 2.1.4.2 and 2.1.4.3
- Appendix 6 of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria
- Technical Guidance Document on the Information Requirements for REACH, Part 2 EWG 1-7, REACH Implementation Project (RIP) 3.3 Phase 2, chapter 7.1.11.3 - GLP compliance:
- no
- Parameter:
- other: exothermic decomposition energy
- Remarks on result:
- other: the substance decomposes at about 375 K. As a result the energy release is below a critical trigger level of 500 J/g with the onset of energy release being below 500 °C.
- Interpretation of results:
- GHS criteria not met
- Conclusions:
- FAT 31064 is considered to be non-explosive according to Directive 67/548/EEC and Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 and no further testing is required.
- Executive summary:
No experimental test data for assessment of explosiveness according to EU Method A.14 or comparable methods for Acid Blue 317 are available. Hence an expert judgment based on the screening procedure as described in below mentioned guidelines was conducted:
- CLP Regulation, Annex I, Part 2, paragraphs 2.1.4.2 and 2.1.4.3
- Appendix 6 of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria
- Technical Guidance Document on the Information Requirements for REACH, Part 2 EWG 1-7, REACH Implementation Project (RIP) 3.3 Phase 2, chapter 7.1.11.3
Analysis of the chemical structure reveals no alert structures for explosive properties. The calculated chemical oxygen balance is below the trigger value of -200 and no alerts for exothermic reactions during substance decomposition are reported. Therefore the substance is considered to be non-explosive according to Directive 67/548/EEC and Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 and no further testing is required.

Screening evaluation
Analysis of the molecular structure of Basic blue 145 revealed, that no chemical alert structures associated with explosive properties are present in the molecule.
Calculation of the oxygen balance according to the above-mentioned formula is -236.14 and therefore higher than the trigger value of -200.
Determination of the exothermic decomposition energy
A measurement to determine the melting point of the test substance performed at the Analytical Department of Ciba Geigy Ltd. in 1990 revealed that the substance decomposes at about 375 K. As a result the energy release is below a critical trigger level of 500 J/g with the onset of energy release being below 500 °C.
Description of key information
Analysis of the chemical structure reveals no alert structures for explosive properties. The calculated chemical oxygen balance is below the trigger value of -200 and no alerts for exothermic reactions during substance decomposition are reported. Hence, BAsic Blue 145 should be considered to be not explosive.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Explosiveness:
- no information available

Justification for classification or non-classification
Basic Blue 145 is considered to be non-explosive according to Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008, hence no classification is warranted.
