Description of key information

1,2 pentanediol is non mutagenic in the Ames test (OECD 471) and the mouse lymphoma test (L5178Y TK +/-; OECD476). No clastogenicity was found in a chromosomal aberration test (OECD 473). Therefore 1,2 pentanediol is considered to be clearly non mutagenic. According to column 2 Annex Xit is not necessary to conduct a carcinogenicity study therefore. Beyond this there are no hints for a possible secondary cancer mechanism. 1,2 pentane diol therefore is expected to be non carcinogenic.
