Executive summary:

The objective of this study was to evaluate the toxicity of the test substance to the earthworm (Eisenia fetida), confined to treated artificial soil for fourteen days. The methods described in this study are consistent with EEC 79/831, Rev. 3. The test substance was tested at concentrations of 0.1, 1, 10, 100, and 1000 mg a.s./kg soil dry weight. The standard, chloroacetamide, was used at concentrations of 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, and 64 mg/kg. Earthworm mortality was determined at 7 and 14 days post treatment.

Soil applications of the test substance had no effect on the earthworm. There was no mortality in any of the test units treated with the test substance. Hence, the LC50 was estimated to be greater than 1000 mg a.s./kg soil dry weight, the highest rate tested. Also, weight loss during the course of the study was no greater than that sustained in the control units. LC50 for the standard, chloroacetamide, was 22.6 mg/kg. There was no mortality in the control units.
