Test solutions
- Vehicle:
- yes
- Details on test solutions:
- 100 mg of QUAB 426 was accurately weighed out and dissolved in 1000 ml of dilution water. From this solution 1.0, 1.8, 3.2, 5.6 and 10 ml were taken
and diluted to one Litre with dilution water. These solutions, containing 0.1, 0.18, 0.32, 0.56 and 1.0 mg/l were used as test solutions.
Test organisms
- Test organisms (species):
- Danio rerio (previous name: Brachydanio rerio)
- Details on test organisms:
- The organism used was the fresh-water fish species Brachydanio rerio cultured in the Laboratory. The test animals were 1.7 +/- 0.2 cm long and weighed 0.04 +/- 0.01 g.
Study design
- Test type:
- semi-static
- Water media type:
- freshwater
- Total exposure duration:
- 96 h
Test conditions
- Hardness:
- Expressed as CaCo3, approx 210 mg/l
- Test temperature:
- Test solutions were kept at 24°C +/- 1°C
- pH:
- The pH of the test and control solutions varied between 8.0 and 8.3.
- Dissolved oxygen:
- The oxygen concentrations of the test and control solutions were greater than 7.3 mg.
- Details on test conditions:
- the five concentrations of the test substance were tested. The test was performed in 1000 ml all-glass beakers , each containing 1000 ml of test solution. Two beakers containing 5 fishes each were used for each test or control solution. The test lasted 96 h. The test and control solutions were renewed daily. The fishes were not fed. At the beginning and at the end of the test and at each renewal time the pH and the oxygen concentration of the test and control solutions were measured. The test solutions were kept at 24 +/- °C and slightly aerated. The dead animals were counted and removed at least after 24 h, 48 h, 72 h and 96 h. At the same times the condition of the survivors was compared with that of the control animals in the blanks.
- Reference substance (positive control):
