Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.16 (Relative Self-Ignition Temperature for Solids)
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
Instead of a GC oven, the laboratory oven for the determination of auto ignition temperature of liquids was used. Temperature control is as good as that of the GC oven. Therefore, this deviation was considered as uncritical.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Two increases in the temperature of the test item were observed at the oven temperatures 237 and 243°C: temperatures increased to 255 and 270°C, respectively. These lie far under the threshold for self-ignition (400 °C). A black residue was observed. Therefore, the test item 5-Aminotetrazol Potassium is considered as not auto-flammable under the test conditions. No observations were made which might cause doubts concerning the validity of the study outcome.
Executive summary:

The auto-flammability behaviour was determined by placing the test item into a stainless steel cube and heating the environment (laboratory oven with automatic temperature recording) from room temperature to the melting point of the test item. Two increases in the temperature of the sample in comparison to the temperature of the oven were observed: at 237 °C and at 243°C, temperatures increased to 255 and 270°C, respectively. These temperatures lie far below the threshold for self-ignition (400 °C). A black residue was found. Therefore, the test item 5-Aminotetrazol Potassium should be considered as not auto-flammable.
