Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
partition coefficient
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
02/04/2014 – 14/04/2014
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Study conducted in compliance with GLP and EU guideline, available as unpublished report, no restrictions, fully adequate for assessment.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.8 (Partition Coefficient)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:
Chilworth Technology Limited, Beta House, Southampton Science Park, Southampton SO16 7NS, United Kingdom
Type of method:
flask method
Partition coefficient type:
octanol-water
Analytical method:
high-performance liquid chromatography
Key result
Type:
log Pow
Partition coefficient:
2.4
pH:
>= 8.03 - <= 8.94
Remarks on result:
other: Temperature was kept constant (+/-1°C) between 20-25°C
Details on results:
- Preliminary estimation: log Pow = 1.301. Test material is relatively non-polar. Such materials have a tendency of forming of microemulsion when dissolved in polar solvents. The test was performed visually hence effect of micro-emulsion must be considered in interpreting the estimated Log Pow.
- Formal Partition Coefficient Analysis: mean log Pow = 2.403. A whitish layer was observed at the octanol/water interface in every flask. The reason for the white layer could not be determined. Possible sample loss at the octanol-water interface must be considered when interpreting the test result.
Conclusions:
The partition coefficient of the test substance between n-octanol and aqueous phase is 2.4 (log Pow).
Executive summary:

In a study performed according to EU Method A8 and GLP, the partition coefficient of the test substance between n-octanol and aqueous phase was determined using the shake-flask method. The partition coefficient of the test substance between n-octanol and aqueous phase was determined to be 2.4 (log Pow).
