Cedarwood Atlas oil is a Natural Complex Substance, a mixture consisting of slightly soluble to soluble constituents. The test substance is a UVCB and the toxicity was tested as a Water Accommodated Fraction. The resulting Median Effective Water Loading cannot be used to derive a PNECaquatic. Moreover, due to the variety of log Kow of the various constituents, the equilibrium partitioning theory cannot be applied to derive PNECsoil or PNECsediment. The volume is 1-10 tonnes/year, therefore neither a CSA or hazard assessment is required, nor a PBT assessment.

Conclusion on classification

For Cedarwood Atlas oil, studies for two trophic levels for acute toxicity are available. The lowest observed ecotoxicity value is 2.0 mg/L in a 48h-EL50 from a Daphnia WAF study. The test substance was shown to be inherently and ultimately biodegradable, and might even be considered as rapidly biodegradable. Yet, over 80% of the constituents of Cedarwood Atlas oil has an estimated log Kow >4. No measured data on BCF is available for this oil.

Therefore according to Regulation 1272/2008/EC (CLP) Cedarwood Atlas oil is classified as hazardous to the aquatic environment Chronic Category 2 (H411).
