Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The corrosion rate of aluminium and steel at 55 °C test temperature by aqueous solutions of calcium hydroxide is lower than 6.25 mm/year, thus the test material is non-corrosive to metal surfaces.

Additional information

Non-corrosive to metal surfaces.

Since alkalinity is the driving factor for reactivity of the substance towards container materials and alkalinity of calcium magnesium (di)hydroxide oxide and calcium hydroxide is comparable, the results of this study can be considered relevant also for calcium magnesium (di)hydroxide oxide. The pH of a saturated aqueous solution of calcium magnesium (di)hydroxide oxide has been determined at 11.7 (see water solubility, O'Connor and Woolley, 2010), whereas Ca(OH)2 creates a pH value of 12.4 (Fox, 2010b).
