Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult give

oxygen. Obtain medical attention immediately.

Emergency measure - Eyes: In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with copious amount of water for at least 15 minutes. Obtain medical

attention immediately.

Emergency measure - Skin: In case of contact flush skin copiously with water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and

shoes. Obtain medical attention immediately.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting unless instructed to do so by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. If large quantities of this material are swallowed call a physician immediately

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended Extinguishing Agents: Foam and dry powder extinguishers should be used.

Product arising from burning: The substance is combustible and will burn if involved in a fire, evolving noxious fumes including carbon monoxide,

carbon dioxide, hydrogen fluoride, aluminium oxide fumes and titanium oxide. However there is no experimental evidence to support the anticipated combustion products.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Evacuate personnel from the immediate vicinity. Immediately contact emergency personnel. Approach the release from upwind. Do not touch or walk through spilled material.

Follow all fire fighting procedures. Use suitable protective equipment. If emergency personnel are unavailable, contain spilled material. Avoid creating dusty conditions and prevent wind dispersal. Reacts violently with water, liberating extremely flammable gases. Eliminate all ignition sources. Minimize contact of spilled material with soils to prevent runoff to surface waterways. A self contained breathing apparatus should be used to avoid

inhalation of the substance. Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection.

Suggested protective clothing might not be sufficient; consult a specialist before handling this product

Handling and storage

Handling: The substance should be stored, handled and used in conditions of good industrial hygiene and in conformity with any local regulations in order to avoid exposure.

When exposure cannot be prevented or adequately controlled, appropriate personal protective equipment should be worn. Such protective equipment should conform to the appropriate international or national standards as follows;

Chemical protective gloves to Standard EN374

Chemical resistance clothing to Standard EN368

Eye Protection to Standard EN166

When necessary, appropriate respiratory protection should be used.

The standards mentioned above should be regarded as a minimu m.

Storage: The substance should be stored under nitrogen in a segregated and approved area.

Keep container in a cool, well ventilated area. Keep away from heat, sparks and flame.

Keep container tightly closed and sealed until ready for use.

To avoid fire or explosion, dissipate static electricity during transfer by earthing and bonding containers and equipment before transferring material.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: UN Certified drum or IBC (Intermediate Bulk Container) only.

Transport information

Exposure controls / personal protection

When exposure cannot be prevented or adequately controlled, appropriate personal protective equipment should be worn. Such protective equipment should conform to the appropriate international or national standards as follows;

Chemical protective gloves to Standard EN374

Chemical resistance clothing to Standard EN368

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: Reacts with water, liberating extremely flammable gas (ethane).

Chemical reaction with water: Degrades rapidly to release breakdown products which are considered to include pentafluorobenzene.

Dust explosion: Not applicable to the substance itself as the substance is an extremely viscous paste. However the preparation constitutes organic materials in finely divided form so, as with all organic powders, there is the possibility of dust explosions.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Due to the nature of the substance and its extremely high sensitivity to contamination recovery or recycling of the substance is not technically possible. Waste material would be disposed of at an appropriate incineration facility.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Planned disposal: The substance should be transferred under nitrogen atmosphere into dry hydrocarbon liquid prior to disposal.

Spillage: Allow the substance to degrade in air. Maintain all fire and spillage precautions. Remove residues for disposal by incineration.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Controlled discharge should not occur. Contaminated containers will be returned to the non-EU manufacturer for specialist cleaning and refilling.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Incinerate at a high temperature, with long burn-time. Stack gases should be scrubbed.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: The substance should not be discharged directly to the sewage system or aqueous environment.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Not Applicable.

Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: Not Applicable.
