Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

A 72h EL50 of > 100 mg/L and NOELR of ≥100 mg/L have been determined for the effect of the test substance on growth rate and biomass of Desmodesmus subspicatus. These values are the lowest of those obtained in five equally reliable tests conducted on different samples of Crude Tall Oil (CTO).
CTO is a UVCB substance and compositional information has been used in conjunction with validated QSARs to derive No Observed Effect Concentrations (NOECs) for its constituent blocks. Calculation of long-term PNECs for the aquatic compartment will be based on data for the constituent blocks rather than on data for the whole substance. Further testing for long-term toxicity to aquatic algae will therefore not contribute to the database that is required to complete the assessment of the substance.
