Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
data from handbook or collection of data
Remarks:
International Chemical Safety Card (ICSC) on chloride magnesium has been prepared in the context of cooperation between the International Programme in Chemical Safety and the Commission of the European Communities. The International Programme on Chemical Safety (IPCS) is a joint program of three Cooperating Organizations - WHO (World Health Organization), ILO (International Labour Organization) and UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme). This ICSC has been peer-reviewed in October 2006.
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Methodological details are not reported
GLP compliance:
not specified
Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
Magnesium chloride is non flammable
Executive summary:

Magnesium chloride is non flammable

Description of key information

Magnesium Chloride is non flammable according to the International Chemical Safety Card (ICSC).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Magnesium chloride is reported to be non-flammable (Source : ICSC)

This result can be confirmed by the chemical structure of MgCl2. Since magnesium is in its most stable oxidation state, the substance is incapable of further reactions with oxygen.

For water flammability, testing can be waived based on experience in handling and use : magnesium chloride is not flammable

Justification for classification or non-classification

No classification is proposed since the substance is non flammable
