Description of key information

There are 2 valid tests on growth inhibition of algae available. Küster (2005) examined the effect of hydrogen sulfide on the freshwater alga Chlorella fusca and determined the 24h-EC50 to 1.87 mg/L.

Breteler (1991) examined the carbon assimilation of the marine alga Skeletonema costatum and obtained a 4h-EC50 of 104 µg/L and a 4h-NOEC of 40.8 µg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
1.87 mg/L
EC50 for marine water algae:
104 µg/L
EC10 or NOEC for marine water algae:
40.8 µg/L
