Description of key information

The acute to toxicity of the test substance to Selenastrum capricornutum was examined for 72 hr at 20 °C . EC50 was determined after 48 and 72 hr as > 100 mg/l nominal concentration using WAF

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L

Additional information

The acute toxicity of Tetrabromobisphenol A, Bis (2,3 -dibromopropyl ether) to Selenastrum capricornutum was examined by determining the 72 hr EC50 (biomass, growth rate inhibition) at 20°C.

Preliminary investigations of the water solubility of the test sample indicated that it became more soluble with time and other studies indicated no toxicity up to 100 mg/l. A limit test at the highest test concentration was considered most appropriate with WAF prepared at concentrations of 10 and 100 mg/l, stirred for 10 days.

Both 48 and 72 hr EC50 of the test material to Selenastrum capricornutum were estimated as > 100 mg/l (WAF nominal concentration) using the biomass integral and > 100 mg/l (WAF nominal concentration) by growth rate calculation.
