Description of key information

Rainbow  trout: The test substance was found to be non  toxic at concentration up and including 100 mg/l.
Orange- red Killfish: The test substance was found to be non toxic at concentration up and including 500 mg/l.

Additional information

Rainbow trout: The results of this study indicate that at concentration up and including 100 mg/l (nominal concentration WAF) the test substance was not toxic to rainbow trout. The highest no observed (lethal) effect concentration (NOEC) could not be determined as there was 0% mortality at the highest test concentration (100 mg/l). The LC50 values therefore estimated as > 100 mg/l at all time points from 24 -96 hr. preliminary investigations of the water solubility of the test sample indicated that it became more soluble with time and range finding studies indicated no toxicity up to 100 mg/l WAF. A limit test at the highest test concentration was considered most appropriate with WAFs prepared at a concentration of 100 mg/l stirred for 10 days.

A mortality of 0% was observed in the control tank at the end of the test period and the dissolved oxygen concentration ranged from 92 -100% ASV. Further no fish were observed to be distressed and no other adverse effects were noted.

Samples of the test solutions in which the fish were exposed were taken for analytical verification at the start of the definitive study, at 24, 48, 72 and 96 hr period (end of experiment). Test substance specific analysis of each test conc. was carried out as soon as possible after sampling,with samples being stored frozen until analysis. Where it was not possible to measure actual conc. in the test system, results were based on nominal conc.

Orange red kill fish: 96hr acute toxicity test was conducted under continous flow system. The results indicate that the test substance was found to be non toxic at concentration up and including 500 mg/l.
