Data source

Materials and methods

Principles of method if other than guideline:
exposure to test substance via inhalation in a chamber which is streamed through by air enriched with 10 mg/l "i-Amylacetat". Effects during exposure and afterwards are reported.
GLP compliance:
no

Test material

Constituent 1
Reference substance name:
"i-Amylacetat" - formula: CH3COOC4H11 - molecular weight: 130 - boiling point: 141 °C
IUPAC Name:
"i-Amylacetat" - formula: CH3COOC4H11 - molecular weight: 130 - boiling point: 141 °C
Details on test material:
- Name of test material (as cited in data source): "i-Amylacetat"
- formula: CH3COOC4H11
- molecular weight: 130
- boiling point: 141 °C

According to the molecular formula and the boiling point the identity of the isoamyl acetate used in the study should be the same as the substance targeted to be registered "isopentyl acetate".

Details on the actually tested material:
"typical market place product "i-Amylacetat for the use in Hefner lamps". The result of the fractionated destillation was: boiling point 131-139 °C 5 %, boiling point 139-141 °C 93 %; boiling point 141-151 °C 2 %.

Results:

Trial Nr. (a and b are at the same time animals) Weight of animal (kg) Sex (m or f) Behaviour/effects during exposure Behaviour/effects after exposure
1a 3.2 m In both animals increased tear fluid and saliva generation. The irritation eases with each daily exposure. Little changes in respect of breathing. Both animals appear "droopy" after each daily exposure but most of the time they eat and loose only little weight. Body temperature: most of the time small increase. Urine: increase of protein concentration. In the sediment in "a": few leukocytes, some single erythrocytes, no cylinders; in "b"; no particular finding. Animal "b" was killed 4 days after the last exposure. Body examination: tracheitis, bronchitis, lungs "derb" (original German), weight 15.6 g/kg. Fat liver, kidneys hyperaemic, other organs not affected.
1b 3.2 m
