Details on test solutions:
PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF TEST SOLUTION
- Method: No stock solution was prepared, the test substance and 4 mg/Lof the vehicle were added directly to the water tank to produce the desired test concentrations and homogeneously distributed. The fish were then transfered to the aquaria.
- Controls: Blank: water; Vehicle: 4 mg alkylphenol-polyglykol-ether per liter water
- Chemical name of vehicle: alkylphenol-polyglykol-ether
- Concentration of vehicle in test medium: no stock solution was prepared, 4 mg/L in vehicle control and test concentrations
- Evidence of undissolved material: a slight deposit was observed at concentrations of 18 - 100 mg/L (nominal) from the start of the test
Test organisms (species):
Danio rerio (previous name: Brachydanio rerio)
Details on test organisms:
TEST ORGANISM
- Common name: zebra-fish
- Source: West Aquarium / D-3422 Bad Lauterberg
- Length at study initiation: mean 30 mm, range 27 -32 mm

Description of key information

With high probability acutely not harmful to fish. No toxic effects occur within the range of water solubility.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In a 96-h acute toxicity study, zebra-fish (Brachydanio rerio) were exposed to the test item at nominal concentrations of 0 (control and solvent control), 10, 18, 32, 58 and 100 mg/L under static conditions. 4 mg/L alkylphenol-polyglykol-esther was used as solvent control and added to the test concentrations. The 96-h LC50 was >100 mg/L, only slight effects on swimming behaviour were observed in the highest test concentration after 48, 72 and 96 hours. It can be concluded that the test substance is not acutely toxic to fish in the range of solubility.
