Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

54.8 mN/m at 20 °C (value taken from a supporting study)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
54.8
in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
451.8

Additional information

Due to the absence of ionisable moiety or dissociable groups in the chemical structure of the substance this endpoint can be waived and no relevant surface-activity is likely. The surface tension of L-menthan-3 -one was tested according to OECD TG 115 as of 1995 (NN 2001). A surface tension of 54.8 mN/m at 25 °C at a concentration of 451.8 mg/L was measured. In conclusion the test item does not exhibit relevant surface tension that could be critical with regard to the application of testing protocols for physical-chemical properties such as e.g. for the measurement of the octanol-water partition coefficient.
