Ecotoxicological information

Long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

Administrative data

Endpoint:
long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates
Type of information:
migrated information: read-across from supporting substance (structural analogue or surrogate)
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: The reliability is rated 1 because the study followed a standard guideline, which describes a procedure designed to evaluate this endpoint, the results were reviewed for reliability and assessed as valid, and the study was conducted under GLP.

Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 211 (Daphnia magna Reproduction Test)
GLP compliance:
yes

Test material

Constituent 1
Reference substance name:
light catalytically cracked naphtha
IUPAC Name:
light catalytically cracked naphtha

Sampling and analysis

Analytical monitoring:
yes

Test solutions

Vehicle:
no
Details on test solutions:
Measured concentrations may not represent 100% of components, remaining hydrocarbon
components in WAFs may be equally toxic and should have been quantitated to determine
total measured concentrations.

Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
Daphnia magna

Study design

Test type:
semi-static
Water media type:
freshwater
Limit test:
no
Total exposure duration:
21 d

Test conditions

Nominal and measured concentrations:
The mean measured concentrations for nominal loading rates of 0.38, 0.99, 2.6, 6.4, 16,
and 40 mg/l were 0.007, 0.022, 0.11, 0.27, 0.68, and 3.1 mg/l representing the average of
total analytes measured in the new and old WAFs.
The average total analyte concentration in the controls was 0.004 mg/l.

Conc. based on:

Basis for effect:

Reported statistics and error estimates:
For NOEL Fisher's Exact Test was used for survival of adult daphnids and Kruskal-
Wallis Test with Dunn's Multiple Comparison was used for reproduction.
For EL50, survival data were analyzed using the Spearman-Karber method and
reproduction data were analyzed by linear interpolation. TOXSTAT program was used to
determine the endpoints.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
Water accommodated fractions of light catalytically cracked naphtha produced a 21 -day
NOELR (No Observed Effect Loading Rate) value of 2.6 mg/L based on reproduction with
Daphnia magna.
Executive summary:

Water accommodated fractions of light catalytically cracked naphtha produced a 21 -day

NOELR (No Observed Effect Loading Rate) value of 2.6 mg/L based on reproduction with

Daphnia magna.
