PBT assessment

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Persistence:

In a valid hydrolysis study in accordance with OECD guidelines the substance menthyl acetate was found to hydrolyse under environmental conditions with a half life of 133 h at 25 °C and pH 7 which is far below the P(vP) trigger criterion of T1/2 > 40 (60) days) for the PBT discussion. The expected products of hydrolysis menthol and acetic acid are readily biodegradable. Substance therefore not (v)P.

Bioaccumulation:

The log Kow of the substance is < 4.5 and predicted BCF values of 202 and 501 L/kg. Substance therefore not (v)B.

Toxicity:

The substance is not classified as CMR or classified with respect to its repeated dose toxicity properties. The substance has no long-term EC10/NOEC for aquatic organisms =< 0.01 mg/L and no acute EC50/LC50 < 0.1 mg/L. The T criterion therefore does not apply.

Conclusions:

The substance is not PBT / vPvB.
