Test solutions

Details on test solutions:
Five different concentrations in a geometric series, namely 10.0, 17.8, 31.6, 56.2 and 100.0 mg/L.
The test was performed in 50 mi glass beakers filled with 40 mi of test medium.

Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
Daphnia magna
Details on test organisms:
The study was performed on thè freshwater crustacean Daphnia magna Straus.
At the start of the test, organisms used in the test were 6-24 hours old and were not first brood progeny.

Study design

Test type:
static
Water media type:
freshwater
Limit test:
no
Total exposure duration:
48 h

Test conditions

Hardness:
water hardness = 250 mg/l
Test temperature:
The incubation temperature was continuously monitored during the course of the study by the means of a data logger. The measured values ranged between 20.6 and 22.5 °C during the test period, only slightly upper than the OECD Guideline recommended range (20.0 ± 2.0 °C).
pH:
The pH of the test medium after preparation was in the range 7.50 – 7.59, the pH of control was 7.36.
Nominal and measured concentrations:
10.0, 17.8, 31.6, 56.2 and 100.0 mg/L - nominal
Details on test conditions:
Due the light sensitivity of test item, the test was performed in dark conditions.
A negative control with reconstituted water only was also tested.
For each test concentration and for the control, 20 daphnids were used divided into four replicates of five daphnids each. The daphnids were randomly distributed to thè test vessels
at initiation of thè test. The daphnid s loading rate was more than one per 2 mi of test
solution. The test vessels were replaced in thè dark place to avoid thè penetration of thè light
in thè test vessels.
Reference substance (positive control):
yes
Remarks:
potassium dichromate

Details on results:
No remarkabie obsen/ations were made conceming thè appearance of the test medium. The test medium was a clear solution throughout the whole test duration.
In the negative control, 0% immobilization was observed during thè test period at each observation time.
Results with reference substance (positive control):

Reported statistics and error estimates:
The results were analyzed for significant differences from control with thè Fisher s Exact test (a = 0.1) by thè means of CETIS elaboration software V1.026D.
