Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The ready biodegradability of the test substance was tested in a guideline study conducted in compliance with OECD 301 A (Ready Biodegradability: DOC Die Away Test). The substance was biodegraded by 80 - 90% after 28 days by activated sludge (BASF AG 2000; report no. 99/0774/21/1).

The test substance consists of two compounds: CAS 6975-33-3 and CAS 102-71-6. CAS 6975-33-3 may hydrolyse under several circumstances to form CAS 104-75-6. However, under environmental conditions the half-life is expected to be several years. Nevertheless, data on the ready biodegradability of the compounds and hydrolysis product are provided as supporting data for the ready biodegradability of CAS 85204-21-3.

The ready biodegradability of CAS 6975 -33 -3 was tested in a guideline study conducted in compliance with OECD 301 B (Ready Biodegradability: CO2 Evolution Test). The substance was biodegraded by 50 - 60% after 28 days by activated sludge (BASF SE 2012; report no. 22G0197/12G034). The substance was not readily biodegradable under the conditions of this test.

The ready biodegradability of CAS 102 -71 -6 was tested in a publication by West RJ and Gonsior SJ concerning a CO2 evolution test. The substance was biodegraded by 100% after 5 days which demonstrate the ready biodegradablity of the substance (West RJ and Gonsior SJ 1996 Environ Toxicol Chem 15(4): 472-480).

The ready biodegradability of CAS 104 -75 -6 was tested according to ISO 14593. The substance was biodegraded by 70% after 28 days which demonstrate the ready biodegradablity of the substance (BASF AG 2002; report no. 02/0119/27/1).

Regarding the results of the key study on ready biodegradation the test substance and its main ingredient CAS 104 -75 -6 are assessed to be readily biodegradable.
