Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Three logKoc values were estimated according to different calculation models. All models indicate a high adsorption potential of cholesterol (log Koc between 4.94 and 6.58).

Additional information

Three log Koc values were estimated according to different calculation models. All models indicated a high adsorption potential of cholesterol (logKoc between 4.94 and 6.58).

This is supported by literature data indicating that in raw sewage, most (80 -95%) of the sterols (incl. cholesterol) were in the particulate fraction (see section 5.5.1).

Based on the influence of the logKoc on the distribution in the STP, the lowest logKoc will result in the lowest partitioning to sludge. As the sludge of the relevant STP is incinerated, this scenario is deemed worst case as the release to the aquatic environment will be the highest. Therefore, a log Koc of 4.94 was chosen as worst case approach value.
